To find a design oriented internship for the summer.
At this point in the story I feel like the knights on Monty Python that get asked the question before being catapulted off the bridge.
As far as the internship quest is going along, not much has developed. I did hear interest from Egg Design in Seattle, Adventures in Missions in Nashville TN, Holy Cow in Minnesota, and a few others.
I have sent off my resume and portfolio about a week and a half ago. There has been complete silence since then. No e-mails. No phone calls. Nada.
I went to Gulf Coast this weekend and it was GREAT! I'll post more details later, but I went to a panel discussion about missions. All of them clamored to the idea of using the talents God gave you in His Kingdom here on earth. Basically if you're a business major mission organizations need you to. Or poultry science. Or engineering. Or pre-med. Or pharmacy. Or nursing. Or even plant-biology. Or..."anything". After the discussion I went up to each mission rep and asked simply "I'm graduating in December with a major in graphic design. Can you use me?"
"No."
They all said in various tones of course, but still. Disappointing. Well, I wasn't that easily shaken so I went into the next room where about a dozen display areas were set up for mission organizations. I went to each one and asked my favorite question "Do you need a graphic designer?"
"No."
"Sorry, what is that?"
"Uh.......no thanks."
Well to me it was obvious that they did by scanning over their brochure and fliers but I simply shrugged and walked away.
I mean c'mon. That has to be slightly humorous right? "Oh yes! We'll use everyone! Just tell us what you do and we'll fit you in!" Oh, sorry to get your hopes up kid. We didn't really mean it - is what I tried to not think after my attempts.
I know it's God way of leading me to the right place, but part of me wished they had at least been in the slightest bit helpful. Or encouraging. Or polite even.
Well, on through the quest I must go. At least there's some humor and a few empty cocoNUTS along the way.

Hey Megan...we're in Michigan, not Minnesota. A little less cold here.
Let's talk this week...my biggest question is what are you looking for exactly. We might be able to work something out that you gain some experience and can stay there in Memphis...
