Today is Saturday.
Courtney and George are out of town this weekend, so Nick and I decided not to go in until this afternoon hence the ability to sleep late. I woke up sore this morning, and I do believe that's from the filming yesterday. I fell and tackled several people...so I'd say that would be a good contributing factor to soreness.
Nick and I are working on the "Summer KickOff" video. Apparently it's a HUGE deal and I'm getting nervous if the video is going to even be good. I haven't had much experience filming and I'm not sure what these kids will find amusing. All of you know that my sense of humor is quite...different, so maybe they'll like it. It's like a "first impression" to the WSYG of the interns. Clay and Katie's video last year was really good, and it has been hard getting things done with Courtney and George gone. Maybe we'll pull it together!
I'm teaching my first class on Sunday with Nick. We're just going to introduce ourselves and let the kids know what we're all about. I think it'll be good.
I got a chance to meet more of the teens last night. They had a TeaParty in the park yesterday afternoon. Yes, there was actual tea. A few of them I had not seen at church, but they were mostly artsy kids and some were slightly apprehensive that Nick and I were there. You know the whole "woooo church intern better not do anything bad" vibe. Eventually they warmed up and seemed like a fun group of teens. After we went with Jim to play ping pong (or just watch Nick dominate). I tried to play but you know that my hand-eye coordination is somewhat limited. Dylan and Konrad showed up later so it was good to get to spend some time with them.
Nick and I parted ways and I ended up picking Jessie up from the park. I had the house to myself so we grabbed a pizza and watched a movie. She's such a sweet girl and we had a lot of fun getting to know each other. Granted it took us 20 minutes to figure out how to work the DVD player. AJ and the rest of the family came in from the movies. Will asked me to draw a picture of Venom (the saw Spider Man III), which I did. He said that he would pay me back with a Halo lesson, gotta love Will.

I just wanna say....
I wish you could see Molly, my host family's dog, right this very second. She's rolling all over the carpet and growling frantically. This creature is absolutely the funniest thing I've seen this week. She does this every day when I come home from work. I've also realized that she's a good alarm clock because she slams herself on my door at 6:45am every day. It wakes me up, of all things. Oh here's a thought: when I'm in Auburn maybe Jason could just slam himself against the door to wake me up....and bark a little.
Today Nick and I had "orientation". Basically we got the 4-1-1 on youth ministry at WhiteStation, our purpose as youth interns, the ropes, the do's and don'ts, what we have planned for the summer, and a huge to-do list. It was really good to sit and talk with Courtney and George. I feel like George is a big well of wisdom for youth ministry (kind of like Jim is for the ACSC) so I plan to soak up as much of that as I can. We had breakfast at the Atlanta Bread Company (like Panera in AU) talking through all of these things.
To be honest I started to feel slightly overwhelmed. It's a lot to do with tons of responsibility but for once I feel like it's where I need to be and doing something that DOES matter. The great thing is, I've got this guy, Nick. He is going to be such a help this summer and I can tell it already. I know he was feeling the same thing I was but he just kept telling me "Oh, yeah. We've got this. Let's do it!" He's a great optimist and his spirit reminds me a lot of Maribeth's, which is AMAZING. I think we're going to accomplish a lot together and I'm excited to become good friends with this kid.
After our "orientation" we met up with the Children and College ministers and interns for lunch at the Memphis Pizza Cafe. It was pretty good and I had fun talking with the college interns. One of the girls, Sarah, is great to talk to. She's really out going and has a passion for Invisible Children so of course you know we'd be friends.
We went back to the church and got a lot of work done this afternoon. We're starting on the BIG summer kick-off video which is a really big deal for the WSYG. I'm really excited about what we're working on and it'll will be full of comedy.
Well I'm going to see Pirate of the Caribbean III tonight with a big group from WSYG. I've got a little work to do before I can go, but I'm really excited! Thanks for reading! Arrrrgh pirates!

Today was a good day
NICK IS HERE!!!! Oh that's George by the way...sporting his sweet shades...
Yay! Well finally that ragamuffin is here and we met for the first time this morning. He's hilarious and I think we're going to make a great team. George is CRAZY about this kid. Today all we managed to do was goof off around the office and I hardly accomplished anything on my to-do list.
Nick and I were on our own for lunch so we decided to see if we could find his host family's place. We didn't have much trouble and both of his host parents were there to welcome us in. They also invited us for lunch so we all went to Chili's to get to know them better. They're a sweet family and I think Nick will be good for Jordan (their 9th grade son). After lunch we got back to the "office" only to find 3 girls giggling on our sofa. Of course that lead to some hilarious conversations and more fun (even though I have to finish the tshirt and logo by tomorrow morning...haha). Nick and I just talked and joked with the girls until he went to play ping-pong with some of the guys (Dillan, Jake and Konrad). I left the office to run home for a minute before the church dinner.
We have dinner at 6pm (fried chicken!), church at 7pm, then the LOST party at Courtney's afterwards. I'm overly excited about the LOST finale and spending more time with the kids. I talked to Clay twice today. He's adjusting well but I can tell he still misses Memphis.
Nick and I have "orientation" tomorrow morning at 9am. We tried to sway them to 9:30, but 9am it is. I have no idea what all of that will include, but it should be fun.
Okay I've got to pull my things together and head back to the church! Keep in touch!

Today I learned...
The following is a list of things that I learned this afternoon and I thought you would find amusing. Enjoy.
1.) The "office" walls are paper thin. Nothing is confidential.
2.) KB can fix anything technological but he can't keep the secret of the summer theme if his life depended on it.
3.) If you leave the church between the hours of 5:30pm to 6:30pm you are going nowhere. Literally.
4.) Auburn never has traffic. Stop complaining.
5.) When stuck in 4 lanes of rush hour back-to-back traffic, in the middle of an intersection, with a train in front of you there are several things you can do: a.) radio scan, stop on a Spanish channel and brush up on your skills de espanol, b.) move all of the trash in your car to a centrally located pile, c.) realize that you have no map and therefore are completely lost, d.) find a car full of children and proceed to wave and make silly faces until they get so rowdy that their parents tell them to stop, d.) count the train cars until you're nauseous, and e.) all of the above
6.) The most elusive creature of Memphis, TN is the grocery store.
7.) Trains. They block up traffic, make intersections confusing, and love to make you late even when you have nothing to be late to.
8.) Mapquest is full of LIES.
9.) Strawberries are really big here.
10.) I believe the Holy Spirit can become your own personal GPS-OnStar system in times of complete desperation, even when your car has no such thing.
Haha well basically this afternoon I went in search of a grocery store. It turned out to be a 2 hour adventure but I finally found one. I will say that was probably the first time I leaped for joy while walking into the doors of a Kroger. I got stuck in traffic, to say the least, but eventually I found what I needed and headed safely back to the casa. I watched Lord of the Rings with Will. I'm having trouble connecting with AJ but I think it will just take some time. Keep her in your prayers! Thanks for reading

Hey friends!
So far today has been uneventful. I came into work at 9:30 and went back to my computer mode. I've been working on the camp tshirt which needs to be done today and the calendar. We just got back from lunch with all of the youth interns and ministers with CoC's around Memphis. It was REALLY good to meet with all of them. Most of the interns were from Memphis and go to Harding or Lipscomb. That's right I represent with the state school and a non-religious-related major. Rock on. Everyone was really nice and the guys were hilarious! HighlandCoC had a fun group and one of the girls I took to rather quickly. Oh and here was the highlight from lunch: I ATE A SALAD. Man, it was goooood to have some greens infront of me. Yessss!
Presently I'm back in the office...about to keep chugging away at the design stuff. George told me that Nick is coming TONIGHT! I couldn't be more excited and eager for some company.
I didn't do anything last night. I got in bed by 9 because there wasn't anything else to do. I sat in bed watching some more Gray's and Invisible Children footage. I fell asleep around 10:30. I keep waking up at 6:45am every morning. It's really strange, and I think it's because Molly's barking wakes me up - but don't worry I fall back to sleep. Haha you know I'm saving up on my hours of sleep for the rest of the crazy summer.

I'm a big girl now
Well I'm sitting in my "office" aka the trailer. I've been working this morning on the tshirt (which I just finished!) and I'm rather proud of my work. I think it's my favorite one I've designed so far. We had a meeting this morning with Courtney and George. We outlined plans for the summer and let me tell you - it's a lot to do. Presently I need to do the camp tshirt, camp booklet, and calendar design before the end of the week as well as a class logo before Sunday night...and you thought designers never have enough to do. Silly you. The pictures are of the beautiful "office". Pretty sweet...if we can figure out how to make it NOT feel like the North Pole! Thankfully I decided to open my window which warmed the room quickly.
Nick will be here in TWO days! I hope we get along because, to be honest, this is a small space. Granted I am comforted by small spaces, I just hope he feels the same way. Here are some photos I took today (when I was supposed to be designing...shh don't tell!)
We had a break for lunch, which I was left to fend for myself. Everyone had plans so I went out on my own. I drove down Park and turned onto Mt. Moriah which, to my personal delight, found a Quizno's. I picked up a HUGE sub, brought it back to the "office", ate on the sofa while watching Gray's on my laptop. That made me feel independent and...old since I could go into a city that I've only been in for 4 days, feed myself, and find my way back. I think I deserve a gold star for that...yessss!
We had a "staff meeting" at 1 this afternoon. Nothing of interest to report there. Now I'm back here to start on my to-do list. I plan to drop by Target on the way home to get some groceries and a few other odds and ends. I've also decided that a salad is in order for dinner. YUM! I wonder if I could get to a Kroger...I've been craving plumbs. I was delighted to find bananas this morning, so fruit is on the agenda as well. Now I'm getting hungry...well back to work I go! A ten year old and the Big Bang theory
Hey everyone!
Well I just got out of the pool a hour ago. The girls pushed me into the frigid waters with the exclamation of "WE LOVE YOU!" Haha they'd better. I laid out to dry off and warm up since I've been freezing for the past 2 days. I don't know what it is but I just couldn't get warm. Thankfully the sun changed that today, hooray for being warm!
Last night we went to one of the college student's going away for the summer party. He got an internship in NY for Journalism, which is quite impressive for a Sophomore. I met a few more of the teens and ate my second pizza for the day. I'm going to start hunting for a salad soon. I've eaten nothing but junk since I left Auburn, but I digress...I got to know Morgan, a senior from WSYG pretty well. She just graduated so hopefully she'll hang around for the summer. Her friend, Jordan (who's brother is going to NY) was there as well. Apparently she's a rather talented musician so I got to listen to her play and sing. She has one of the most beautiful voices I've heard in a long time. AJ wasn't there because she went on a date *oh la la!* with her fellow, Fletcher, from WSYG. He's a baseball player and I met him yesterday. Seems like a good one :)
After the party, and my sad attempts at remembering hundreds of names, we rode back home. On the way Will was chatting away when he started talking about the "Big Bang Theory". As we started talking he explained that we believe God created the earth in 7 days and this theory said it took thousands of years. He paused and said "Something had to make the bang though...right?" He proceeded to completely disprove the Big Bang Theory and he's only in 4th grade. I couldn't help but laugh, he reminds me so much of Jason when he was that age. Wow I feel old...
We had church this morning for the big "Celebration" of their new addition to the building. We met all at once, and it was quite a large gathering. I'd say the size of this congregation is maybe 300 more than ours, but it felt like Auburn in many ways. They had combined the traditional with the contemporary services and I REALLY liked it. I wish ACoC would do that! Rodney preached (mom and dad - the same guy you heard when you visited) and he's just so passionate. I really like listening to him and I'll be eager for his next lessons. After service we all ate lunch together outside under a huge tent. During lunch they had the ground breaking ceremony and different groups performed. Even two of the teen guys (who I mistook for college students, and all of the WSYG find beautiful) Logan and Chris played. They're were good, and Jordan played as well. I still think Heath wins :)
Presently the girls are outside goofing off around the pool. Man they have a lot of energy...I could so take a nap. Unfortunately that's not on my agenda for today because I have a tshirt design due tomorrow morning. Yeah, quick turn around. I have to go in tomorrow at 9:30, which is a good time. I was afraid she would say earlier, you all know I'm not a morning person.
